Dr Sangwe Clovis Nchinjoh is a public health physician, implementation researcher, and global immunisation specialist dedicated to expanding equitable access to lifesaving vaccines across low- and middle-income countries. He currently serves as Senior Programme Manager, Vaccine Programmes at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, where he supports global programme design, introduction, and scale‑up of vaccines for adolescents and adults, including HPV and RSV, and strengthens delivery strategies that reach underserved populations.
With over a decade of experience spanning policy design, health system strengthening, and large‑scale program management, Sangwe has led high‑impact immunisation initiatives across West and Central Africa. His work has contributed to the vaccination of millions of children and adolescents, the introduction and routinization of new vaccines, and the development of evidence‑driven strategies to identify and reach zero‑dose and under-immunised populations.
Before joining Gavi, Sangwe held leadership roles at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) in Nigeria and Cameroon, where he managed multi‑million‑dollar investments, guided national HPV and rotavirus vaccine rollouts, co‑developed strategic policies, and advanced implementation research to inform national and global immunisation agendas. His earlier career as a district medical officer and founder of Rural Doctors shaped his commitment to equity, community-centred care, and strengthening primary healthcare in fragile and hard‑to‑reach settings.
Sangwe’s contributions have earned global recognition, including the 2023 Albert B. Sabin Rising Star Award, the Hebrew University 40 Under 40 distinction, and features by Gavi and the Hebrew University Board of Governors for innovative public health action. He has authored peer‑reviewed publications on immunisation systems, zero‑dose strategies, outbreak response, and health service resilience, and frequently speaks at international forums on vaccine delivery and implementation science.
He is a PhD candidate in Public Health at the University of the Free State, holds an MPH (Magna Cum Laude) from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, an MSc in Health Care Management from UNICAF, and an MD from the University of Buea.
Across all his work, Sangwe is driven by a simple conviction: every person, regardless of geography or circumstance, deserves access to the vaccines and primary healthcare services that protect and enable a healthy life.
